In 1964 she accepted a full time position at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville as Artist- in-Residence, a title she retained until 1987.Ms.Slenczynska married in 1967 to Dr.James Kerr, a professor of political science at SIUE. She published a book of memoirs, Forbidden Childhood(N.Y., 1957), which deals with life as a child prodigy, and a book on piano technique, Music at Your Fingertips: Aspects of Pianoforte Technique(N.Y., 1961).

After a year of teaching performance techniques at Soochow University in Taiwan, Ruth Slenczynska say goodbye to her students and the classical music loving general public alike, with a special concert at Taipei's National Concert Hall at 2003. She had her last retirement concert on her 80th birthday in Taipei in which she played 3 concertos in one evening. She also gave several major concerts and master classes in Japan. A documentary of Ms. Slenczynska was broadcast on NHK TV throughout Japan, and as a result, the Empress of Japan, who herself is a wonderful pianist and a great music lover, invited Ms. Slenczynska to visit her in the Imperial Palace.
